The Star of David symbol appears thousands of years ago in ancient cultures, long before it became a distinct symbol of Judaism.
Its form is used in Eastern cultures to this day.
In Buddhism, for example, the Star of David symbol is used as an aid to meditation and a means of achieving a sense of peace and harmony. In Indian yoga, the sign of the fourth chakra (the heart chakra) is the Star of David. Another meaning of this symbol is a combination between the heavenly element that aspires to the earth (the triangle whose apex faces downwards), compared to the earthly element that aspires to heaven (the triangle whose apex faces upward).
